Josef

If you're looking for a really authentic place to have dinner, we highly recommend Josef, a smallish restaurant in the western part of Zurich. It if famous for two things – an innovative menu and very reasonable prices. The menu changes daily, and depending on your level of hunger, you can choose a two-, three- or five-course meal priced at 38, 51 and 75 CHF, respectively. A healthy dose of humour can be clearly seen in the restaurant's décor – the dark wood-paneled walls feature black and white photographs of iconic figures from the worlds of fashion and rock music, including an image of Yves Saint Laurent in which he has been stylized in an altogether contemporary manner. Although the menu at Josef's is a always a surprise (“Adventures in modern cuisine” is their catchphrase), everything is always prepared from seasonal and local ingredients, and there is no risk of ending up with a plate full of an experiment that is an end in itself. For those who are really hungry, we advise you order a five-course meal – that way you'll also be sure to get dessert, an obligatory part of Zurich cuisine.
