Rosso

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Although the Italian restaurant Rosso has been a fixture for eleven years already in the so-called “Wild West” of Zurich, it somehow still retains a reputation of being “a secret spot”. It has no outside marquee, and the small side-street that it lies on doesn't have an easily visible street-sign either. One has to go by landmarks – the Hardbrücke train station, and directly across from it, Zurich's highest structure – the Prime Tower. Housed in what was once a natural-gas tank-filling factory, it looks as if nothing much has been changed in the industrial space except for the addition of vintage wooden tables and chairs. In short, it has been simply and stylishly adapted for use as an eatery. Rosso specializes in Italian food, and they do this marvelously. Their octopus with fennel and orange salad is wonderful, as is their scallop carpaccio with fried prawns and a radicchio-avocado salad. It's a good deal price-wise as well (for Zurich, that is), and the portions aren't exactly small either. Rosso also has an outdoor terrace with a roof, which makes it enjoyable even on warm but rainy evenings. Take note that Rosso is quite popular with the locals, so be sure to make reservations if you don't wish to stand in the waiting in line for several minutes.
