Many claim it to be the finest restaurant in the city, a matter of opinion. What cannot be disputed is that you will not find these dishes anywhere else in the city. The menu is unique, variations of dishes collected from all parts of the world. In other words, this is a kind of fusion food restaurant.
Its setting in the gardens of a great mansion - now one of the most prestigious art museums of the city, with sweeping views over the Bosphorus - completes the picture.
You can generally get a seat without a reservation - at least on weekdays - though you might want to be safe and phone ahead. And if you come for lunch, you can combine the perfect meal with a visit to one of the stunning art exhibitions that have given the Sabancı Museum an international reputation.
As for price, starters range from €10-20, main courses €25-40, drinks from about €10.
This venue has increased interest in the Bosphorus-side village of Emirgan, always a favourite with Istanbul natives for its coastal promenades and cafes looking across continents to the waterside mansions on the Asian side.
Especially at weekends and rush hour, the traffic along the coast can be pretty congested, so allow plenty of time from downtown. There is a motorway if you are pushed for time, but there's nothing wrong with spending an hour or so travelling along one of the most scenic waterways in the world.
