Notes Music Cafe

Notes Music Coffee opened its doors in November of 2010 and has fast become one of the city's best-loved cafés. It engenders the quintessence of urbane comfort - superb coffee, pleasing snacks, good wine, and excellent music in the stylishly democratic atmosphere of scenes from selected movies. Notes Music Coffee is only a few steps away from the Royal Opera House and the Coliseum Theatre. Its collection of music and movies reflects the current repertoire of the opera and ballet. If, for example, Eugene Onegin is being shown at the theatre, then you are sure to find a selection of the best performances on DVD and CD at Notes. There is also a small music and film store in the basement that sells mostly classic films, ballet and opera DVDs, as well as recordings of jazz, classical, and world music. And, if it is wine that interests you, then you will find that Notes' monthly Wine List includes respectable classics, as well as current trends that have been selected with great care by its Head of Wine. The wine cellar has a fantastic collection of both much admired and lesser-known wines from all over the world, chosen for their quality and character. You can enjoy a glass on the spot, take a bottle with you, or experience the flavours in learned company at one of Notes' periodic wine-tasting events. The contemporary interior is sparse and laconic - a long row of wooden tables set under a high ceiling across from Notes' impressive bar, and a few more tables in the music section under the centrepiece Spider Lamp created by Ron Gilad for Moooi. In 2011, Notes opened a second location at 36 Wellington Street.
