smalls jazz club

smalls has always cared more about musicians than public. This tiny and unassuming basement-floor club turns into a place where the very soul of jazz rejoices on wee hours of weekend nights. During these nightly jam sessions, the gentlemen who usually play for money just entertain themselves, exchanging one another on stage. There are jazzmen of all generations, famous and the less renowned ones. While ones are ardently improvising, others, fidgeting and swaying in sync with the rhythm, are awaiting their turn. Even though smalls has been on the verge of bankruptcy more than once and even charity events in its support have been organized, it still carries on and continues to amaze its visitors with its fantastic music and atmosphere. Occasionally, when it's well into the morning hours and visitors have already left, a beautiful being like a messenger of a dawning day steps onto the stage and starts singing "My Funny Valentine" in a divine voice...
