The Rick's Café, Casablanca (1942)

The Rick's Café, Casablanca (1942)

Here the charm or America of the thirties has reborn again - with palm trees and walls plastered with old movie posters, and nostalgic jazz music. All that matches with the Moroccan crockery, textiles and lamps with little fringes, all tinted in purple. A bar seems to have only a symbolic role, as drinks can be savored at numerous of small tables, scattered in several halls, separated by white curved arches.
Ricks café, a cherished idea of the former USA diplomat in Morocco Kathy Kriger, resembles a movie frame, with all its visitors becoming heroes of a present time Casablanca. Again and again the restaurant's owner has reeled the legendary scenes of the classical movie, paying special attention to details. Isaam, a pianist from Rabata, in stead of Sam provides soundtrack for this movie on the black grand piano. And old waiters, most probably having devoted to their profession the whole of their lives, can chat with you almost about anything.
With no claims of being a design café, The Rick's is a pleasant Casablanca's seafront saloon with delicious Moroccan cuisine and excellent sea products. It is a place with savor and history. This place is popular among connoisseurs and a table should be booked in advance. Moreover, a meal seldom costs more than 30 dollars.
