The Natural History Museum

This museum is fascinating because of its huge collection of badly stuffed specimens of animals. Most of this museum's exhibits are animals that were stuffed and mounted by taxidermists without the actual knowledge of what they actually looked like. When taxidermy first became popular, it was often the case that the taxidermist was only given the animal's skin and did not actually know what the actual creature had looked like while alive. So the taxidermists represented at this museum sometimes had only a loose idea of what the animals had looked like, which explains this display of cartoon-like fantasy creatures that vaguely resemble real animals like a zebra or a lion. Some of the animals look more like toys, defying the original idea of taxidermy which is to preserve the outer shell of a life form to make it look as natural as possible.
