Moon

Roman Zashterinski, head chef of the sophisticated Ö Restaurant in Tallinn, has teamed up with two like-minded fellow-chefs to launch a new gastronomic destination which suits the needs of the time right down to the ground: it is the freshly-opened Moon Restaurant. The culinary world is known to become periodically obsessed with yet another new fad: the fashion for Italian cucina was replaced by interest in the Japanese food, etc... The really trendy thing today is definitely embracing the roots, going back to one's own native cuisine. The Moon Restaurant serves proper Estonian home-style meals cooked by professionals. The truly excellent chefs - connected by culinary tastes as well as family ties - prepare quality food, using only the best of the local ingredients. The short time since the opening has been enough for the Moon to win popularity. The simple decor, free of pretence and subtleties of design, seems to attract true fans of good food: the two roomfuls of chattering guests, both young and more respectable, jeans- and suit-clad, are sufficient proof of the Moon's status of a top restaurant.
The superb menu ranges from gherkins, pickled wild mushrooms and herring to accompany a shot of icy vodka, to starters - roasted Camembert, orzotto (pearl barley risotto) with pumpkin and goat's cheese - to pelmeni (Siberian dumplings) in mushroom broth; fish soups; eel, duck or rabbit ragout and roast lamb or beef.
For an aftertaste, look at the mouth-watering display of potato pie with bacon filling, Russian-style cabbage pies and other delicacies to take away.
