LE GRAND REX

LE GRAND REX

With its 2750 seats, Le Grand Rex still boasts the largest auditorium in Paris and the whole of Europe. The film theatre, commissioned by the independent film dealer Jacques Haïk, opened in 1932 with a screening of Les Trois Mousquetaires. While the architect Auguste Bluysen designed the interior and exterior of the building alike in the Art Deco style, the interior designer Maurice Dufrene was strongly inspired by traditional Moroccan motifs as he created the main auditorium. In the 1970s and 1980s seven additional auditoria were set up. Today the theatre is a popular venue for significant French film premieres and concerts of considerable scale. The cinema also offers a thrilling tour of the backstage (Les Etoiles du Rex) - an overview of the history of Le Grand Rex and the filmmaking industry, featuring a variety of special effects.
