Every city has its special spots possessing almost magical charm. Packed with people from the very opening, they never lose their appeal, regardless of the passing time and emerging of new trends. Roberts Bistro is such a big draw of Düsseldorf. Although utterly unattractive at first glance, it has acquired a special status already. Sited on a side-street of Media Harbour area, it might be easily passed by without even noticing. Everything is quite old and worn there, including simple, wooden chairs and paper-clad tables. The open door in the corner of the room gives a view of cooks, bustling about in the kitchen, a dignified waitress seems to know almost everyone in the dining room, and instant warmth and coziness surrounds you there. Roberts Bistro boasts impressive menu, huge, friendly-priced servings, and the best fish soup in the city. What a fantastic set of tastes with three types of fish, mussels, shrimps in it and some salmon bellies in addition. A seemingly small bowl has so much fish in it that it nearly equals two main courses. Just consume your soup and you will not look for any other food until the very evening. And it is so delicious! Roberts Bistro is a sure choice and a good place to return if you are weary of a la Wallpaper* style designer restaurants (yet Düsseldorf isn't short of them either). Roberts Bistro doesn't accept reservations and is pretty crowded during the typical lunch and dinner hours, thus it makes sense arriving there a little earlier. Note that they do not take credit cards either.
