Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, unlike the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which presents a comprehensive history narrated in the context of the car, focuses only on historical development and contemporary aspects of its own brand. The museum is primarily focused on professional interests of Porsche aficionados, passionate car lovers and connoisseurs of the field. It is designed by the winning Austrian firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, while total of about 170 architectural firms from across Europe participated in this project competition. The building was started in 2005 and the new Porsche museum was inaugurated in 2009. Its bold and dynamic architecture and the display manner mirrors the very essence of Porsche philosophy and uniqueness of this automobile. Ascending on an escalator from the lobby of the museum, visitors can view from above its grand collection of 80 cars along with other exhibits that reveal the history of this exclusive automaker - from the time before the car designer Ferdinand Porsche established his engineering design office in 1931, till nowadays.
Moreover, on the way to the museum, situated next to the Porsche plant, one can observe a view that would enthrall any car enthusiast. Yet unpainted Porsche 911 automobiles are passing through a glass-cased conveyor bridge above the road, travelling from one factory workshop to another! I have to admit, however, that it's easy to miss it without noticing, as gray, metallic color car bodies aren't very eye-catching and conveyor bridge windows are not very big.
