Located a stone's throw from St Peter's Basilica (Basilica di San Pietro) and the Vatican, the Azzurro Scipioni independent art house picture theatre is a unique place among the rest of Roman film-watching venues atmosphere-wise. It's founder and owner is the avant-garde filmmaker Silvano Agosti who frequently screens his own and his contemporaries' pictures here. The film theatre owes its name both to Franco Piavoli's movie Il Planeta Azzurro and its location (in Via degli Scipioni). The two moderately-sized auditoria bear the names of Lumière and Chaplin respectively; both contemporary and classical Italian movies are shown there. Old airplane seats serve as chairs so that the serious film lover can enjoy the feel of an exciting visual flight.
