A tiny, unknown village was just a dot on the western border of the Soviet Union once. Yet now, according to windsurfing enthusiasts, Pavilosta is considered to be the best windsurfing spot in Latvia, located 220 kilometers from Riga. In summertime, southwestern wind is prevailing there, the same way as in Latvia and the whole Baltic Sea area in general. It is advisable, however, to check a wind forecast on www.windguru.com . It's a superb website, providing reliable information on wind speed, direction, precipitations and general weather conditions, updated every three hours. For Latvian windsurfers Pavilosta may seem a bit too familiar, presenting no surprises at all, yet foreigners always find it quite challenging. Going to Pavilosta, take your own equipment with you. Advisable lodgings are hotels Vēju paradīze and Krokodils , while a hearty meal can be enjoyed at the restaurant Āķa gals .
