Livraria Lello

Author: Ieva Lešinska0 COMMENTS

Definitely one of the world's most beautiful bookstores, worth a visit even if reading is not an essential part of your life. The red-carpeted, sensuously curved Art Nouveau-style stairs; the stained glass; the bronze busts of Portuguese writers; the arch-like bookshelves; the smell of wood and ancient books: the room alone sets your thoughts in motion, just like a good book. The tiny, almost secret second-level cafe is the place to enjoy some coffee, Port wine or a fine cigar and exchange a word or two with the co-owner Antero Braga who knows everything there is to know about books published in Portugal.
