50 Kvadrat

50 Kvadrat is one of the most amazing restaurants in Sweden, greatly thanks to its unique location. Sitting on its cozy open-air terrace under heat lamps, a fabulous medieval city wall of Visby and a church rises up in front of your eyes. The restaurant was opened in February 2005, and its name denotes its area. The initial 50 m², however, have added up some more space by now - a modern lounge and a wine-cellar, lined with limestone, opened for individual wine degustations as well. The restaurant does not conceal its simple stone walls either. Its minimalistic décor features mostly clean and clear colors, every detail being authentic and perfectly matching the place and the time. It refers also to linen-decked tables and a large fabric lamp on the wall.
Loyalty to local products is in the menu as well. It offers innovative Swedish cuisine with just a touch of world's gastronomy. The chef of 50 Kvadrat, Fredrik Malmstedt, incorporates domestic ingredients in almost every meal. Lobsters, scallops and black caviar, pork cheek jelly, and the local Gotland's steak with vegetables - everything so fresh and delicious! Gotland has always been famed for its black lambs and cattle that can even get a special daily massage. Aside from that, Kvadrat offers a large variety of vegetables, including wild leek. Moreover, the chef himself pays a visit to each table, giving some details about products' origin and preparation process.
50 Kvadrat offers both a la carte menu and a special gourmet's journey with 13 dishes, 13 wines and just 5 hours to taste it all. And what a charming ambiance! Finally, if you still have some strength left, you may drop into special room devoted to cheese degustation.
The restaurant is opened only in the evenings, from 6pm.
