Wengen

A Swiss exotic. A little alpine village located on the rock, not reached by any other transport but train. At first glance nothing gives off a nearby resort - just a big parking lot for cars at the bottom of the mountain, surrounded by huge rocks, and a railway. Wengen is lying at the altitude of 1274 meters and is a so called auto-frei or car-free village, with only electro-mobiles being used there. Choice of hotels is quite limited and it does not matter if you are a multifold world champion and a millionaire or just an alpine skiing enthusiast - everyone stands on a platform, waiting for the train, as it is the only way how to reach the coveted slopes. Unfortunately, it is not the fastest way of transportation and some schedule deviations may occur as well, so - just arm yourself with patience. Yet, a trip is worth the efforts! The magnificent route winds along the cliffs and through tunnels, with snow-covered slopes unfolding before your eyes high above. Although not so many, slopes are long and broad. Moreover, Wengen is renowned for the world's best downhill course and event to be mentioned is Lauberhornrennen annual ski cup. It is a remarkable sight as the world's toughest skiers finish the run and drop down, exhausted, into the snow. And that is not all yet - Wengen offers a unique experience as some of its pistes wind along the very edge of a cliff or, turning into a narrow trail, rushes through tunnels in the rocks. Fantastic experience!
