The same way as Berlin, Chicago features one of the world's fastest and physically not very demanding marathon courses. It is amazingly beautiful, in fact, as almost the whole race leads along the Lake Michigan and the Lake Shore Drive, shown to city guests as one of the most scenic parts of Chicago. Both the start and the finish are located near the lake in the territory of Grant Park, located on the Columbus Drive. The entire course winds through larger and smaller neighborhoods of Chicago, like Chinatown, Greektown, Little Italy and others, and it is entirely different experience than travelling around the city on a usual day. The traffic is shut off, and 45 thousands of runners tread the otherwise busy streets. The flat terrain is perfect for setting new personal, country and world records, which are not so rare at all there. In 2002, for example, the world record was achieved by the legendary British marathonists, Paula Radcliffe. Not for nothing this marathon is listed among the World Marathon Majors! Chicago marathon takes place in October, when the weather conditions are most favorable for a physical activity like this. Only in 2007 the race was stopped - believe it or not, dues to record-setting heat. Like ahead of any big race, a marathon Expo takes place here as well, showing the latest trends in sportswear and running shoes design.
