The Kitchen New York
Author: Margarita Zieda0 COMMENTS
Opened in New York in 1971, Kitchen - the legendary centre for American avant-garde artist - unites writers, video artists, composers of experimental music, performance artists and filmmakers for work and dialogue. The Kitchen was founded as a space where artists would have an opportunity to road-test their ideas, experiment and build creative interplay with like-minded people they could meet here. The likes of Vito Acconci, Constance de Jong, Gary Hill, Kiki Smith, Charles Atlas, Lucinda Childs, Elizabeth Streb, Bill T. Jones, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass and Meredith Monk have all worked here: practically the crème de la crème of the American avant-garde art. Today, The Kitchen still defines itself as a territory of innovative ideas and experiments.
